| Thank you to Jack Bianchi -Adam Duvendeck
I wanted to take the time to thank Jack for his continued
support of myself and my Olympic dream. Just
recently Jack made a donation through the Echelon
Olympic Fund that allowed me to purchase a new
Ergometer. This stationary bike was designed by my
Olympic Coach as a way to simulate track riding and
training. It is outfitted with an SRM to record wattage,
cadence, and heart rate so we can make training as
scientific as possible.
Sometimes the two hour haul to the velodrome is a
bit much. Cody, Spencer and I will be able to train in
Santa Barbara properly and efficiently thanks to the
help of Jack Bianchi!

Scheduled for December 15-17, the second round of the four-race series will feature some of the top track cycling athletes in the world as they compete for world cup points and attempt to earn qualifying positions for their respective countries at the World Championships next Spring.
After a relatively young squad kicked off the world cup series last month in Sydney with modest success and promising performances, another young team will head to Russia to compete against the world’s best.
Sima Trapp (Boise, Idaho/Colavita Cooking Light) and Kori Seehafer (Louisville, Colo./Team Lipton) comprise the women’s endurance contingent and will each compete in both the points race and scratch race.

Australian Track Championships UPDATE Nov 2006 EchelonOlympicNews.doc |
U.S. National Team named for UCI Track World Cup opener
Colorado Springs, Colo. (November 11, 2006)—
The 2006-07 UCI Track World Cup series begins next week in Sydney, Australia where a team of eight riders will represent the United States in the season opener.
Five men and three women will travel Down Under for the three-day event November 17-19 to kick off the four-race series that also features stops in Moscow, Los Angeles and Manchester, Great Britain.
The men’s contingent will feature four sprinters and one endurance rider while the women’s squad is comprised of one sprinter and a pair of endurance athletes.
Adam Duvendeck (Santa Barbara, Calif./Echelon Santa Barbara), who recently returned from a short sabbatical from competitive cycling to earn a national title in the keirin last month, has been named to the national team and will contest both the keirin and the team sprint events in Sydney.
Duvendeck’s 2004 Olympic teammate in Athens, Giddeon Massie (Colorado Springs, Colo./Spike), captured his first-ever stars-and-stripes jersey in the men’s sprint in October and will join Duvendeck on the team sprint squad and will be one of the U.S. National Team’s two entries in the men's sprint.
Massie’s teammates on the Spike Team, Michael Blatchford (Cypress, Calif.) and Kevin Selker (Boulder, Colo.), complete the roster of men’s sprinters as Blatchford is scheduled to compete in the sprint and team sprint events and Selker is listed for the team sprint in his first world cup experience.
In October, Selker, Massie and Blatchford combined to win a national title in the team sprint.
The lone men’s endurance rider is Dave McCook (Mountain View, Calif./Jelly Belly.). McCook earned a national title in the scratch race this season and placed third in the points race. He will ride both events in Sydney.
Veteran Jennie Reed (Kirkland, Wash./Spike) will lead an otherwise internationally inexperienced women’s squad that features two competitors who will be making their world cup debuts – Kelly Benjamin (Overland Park, Kan./Diet Cheerwine) and Theresa Cliff-Ryan (Cedar Springs, Mich./Wolverine Sports Club).
Reed swept all four sprint events at the national championships – the 500-meter time trial, keirin, sprint and team sprint (with teammate Liz Carlson) – but will focus her efforts only on the sprint and keirin in Sydney.
Reigning criterium national champion on the road, Cliff-Ryan turned in a solid performance at the national championships, placing third in both the points race and the scratch race, while Benjamin earned a spot on the podium with a fifth-place effort in the points race. Both women will compete in both the scratch race and points race in Sydney.

Announced today the 25 cyclists named to the 2006-07 USA Cycling Track Talent Pool for the upcoming season. Riders who will represent the United States in all major international track cycling competitions during the 2006-07 season will be drawn from this pool of athletes.
Several winners from this month’s USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships and riders who met time standards at qualifying events throughout the season received automatic nominations. Factors taken into account for the at-large coaches’ selections were an athlete’s long-range potential and past performances in domestic and international competition.
Also earning automatic nominations were riders who earned overall 2006 National Track Calendar Series titles. The USA Cycling National Track Calendar ended with the Elite National Championships earlier this month. Nine overall series championships were awarded to riders who amassed the most points throughout the 13-event series. Sarah Hammer (Temecula, Calif./Ouch Pro Cycling) won the women’s scratch race and points race titles with a total of 15 points in each event. Jennie Reed (Kirkland, Wash./Spike) claimed the women’s keirin title with 35 points and the sprint title with 25 points. Giddeon Massie (Colorado Springs, Colo./Spike) won the series in the men’s keirin with 22 points and the sprint with 37 points. The men’s points race title went to Mike Creed (Colorado Springs, Colo./TIAA-CREF) with 15 points, and the scratch race title was awarded to Dave McCook (Mountainview, Calif./Jelly Belly), also with 15 points. Mike Friedman (State College, Pa./TIAA-CREF) and Brad Huff (Fair Grove, Mo./TIAA-CREF) teamed up to earn 35 points and the madison title.
The USA Cycling Track Talent Pool for the 2006-2007 season is as follows:
Men’s Endurance Squad
Mike Friedman (State College, Pa./TIAA-CREF)
Mike Creed (Colorado Springs, Colo./TIAA-CREF)
Brad Huff (Fair Grove, Mo./TIAA-CREF)
Cody O’Reilly (Santa Barbara, Calif./Echelon Santa Barbara)
Tom Zirbel (Boulder, Colo./Priority Health)
Dave McCook (Mountain View, Calif./Jelly Belly)
Bobby Lea (Taneytown, Md./Toyota-United)
Austin Carroll (Orange, Calif./i.e. Bikes)
Both Creed and Huff qualified automatically by winning both the National Track Calendar and the National Championships – Creed in the points race and Huff in the madison. Friedman qualified automatically as the National Track Calendar winner and National Champion in the madison. O’Reilly, Zirbel, and McCook were also automatic nominations. O’Reilly and Zirbel met time standards, and McCook was the National Track Calendar Champion in the scratch race. Lea and Carroll received coaches’ nominations based on their 2006 performances.
Women’s Endurance Squad
Sarah Hammer (Temecula, Calif./Ouch Pro Cycling)
Neva Day (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Southbay Wheelmen)
Becky Quinn (Quakertown, Pa./Spike)
Kristin Armstrong (Boise, Idaho/Team Lipton)
Kori Seehafer (Louisville, Colo./Team Lipton)
Sima Trapp (Boise, Idaho/Colavita-Cooking Light)
Theresa Cliff-Ryan (Cedar Springs, Mich./Wolverine Sports Club)
Kelly Benjamin (Overland Park, Kan./Diet Cheerwine)
Hammer, an automatic nomination, ended an 11-year drought by winning the world title in the pursuit. She also set a new national record, met a time standard, and claimed the individual pursuit national title. Day was automatically chosen for meeting a time standard. Quinn, Armstrong, Trapp, Cliff-Ryan, and Benjamin were all coaches’ nominations based on their 2006 results.
Men’s Sprint Squad
Giddeon Massie (Colorado Springs, Colo./Spike)
Adam Duvendeck (Santa Barbara, Calif./Echelon Santa Barbara)
Ben Barczewski (Breinigsville, Pa./Spike)
Michael Blatchford (Cypress, Calif./Spike)
Kevin Selker (Boulder, Colo./Spike)
Andy Lakatosh (Trexlertown, Pa./Spike)
Massie qualified automatically when he became the national champion in the sprint and the National Track Calendar champion in both the sprint and the keirin. Duvendeck also qualified automatically because of his National Track Calendar keirin win. Barczewski and Blatchford received coaches’ nominations based on their international and domestic results from 2006, and Selker and Lakatosh were chosen based on 2006 domestic results.
Women’s Sprint Squad
Jennie Reed (Kirkland, Wash./Spike)
Liz Reap-Carlson (Jim Thorpe, Pa./East Coast Velo)
Anna Lang (La Jolla, Calif./Big City Velo)
Reed swept the women’s sprint events at the national championships, and won the National Track Calendar in the sprint and the keirin to receive an automatic nomination. Reap-Carlson and Lang were both coaches’ selections based on their 2006 domestic results.
